Organisational change is the process where an organisation moves from its present state to some desired future state to increase its effectiveness, it covers the process, system and infrastructure changes required to maintain or improve delivery of the organisational outputs to its customers. Organisational change is a constant in most organisations, driven by a number of different forces including customers, markets and technology
Our organisational change assessment carried out during the "Define Phase" for major change initiatives is designed to gauge the organisations readiness. It evaluates the organisations available change capacity, change culture and change history. The resulting analysis will be used during the Preparation Phase of the 8 Step Change Process.
Our Change Management Process is based on Kotters 8 Step Model and contains the structure, detail and guidance required to support all types and sizes of change initiatives.
The process is also embedded within our Rapid Improvement Event - Kaizen approach, A3 Problem Solving & 8D Problem Solving Processes. This ensures that solutions from these initiatives are given the highest probability of successfully delivering and sustaining actual benefits.
Unfortunately we see all too often improvement projects and initiatives that fail to meet their expected goals. As Lean experts this is probably the most frustrating aspect of our profession as we know the value and benefits the methodology can bring to organisations. Individual lean improvement projects often yield unbelievable benefits, yet time and time again these are never fully realised because we fail to achieve or sustain the results.
Why is this the case? The answer is really quite simple, we commonly do not practice Change Management effectively when it comes to rolling out solutions from our continuous improvement efforts.
The reasons our initiatives generally fail to achieve their intended goals typically fall in to one or more of the following three categories;
"If we do not have a robust Change Management Model, Procedure, Processes and Tools then it becomes impossible to mitigate against the 3 main reasons for failure".
Our Change Management solution uses a process designed to minimise the negative impacts of change and is structured in to 3 distinct phases;
Each phase is supported by detailed activity checklists, tools, templates & guidance information designed to fully support the initiative (change) sponsor with all requirements to ensure the greatest possible chance of implementing a successful programme. The process is also built in to all our core problem solving offerings.
Change Readiness Assessment
If an organisation does not have the capacity it is very unlikely the employees will be able to take on the extra workload that a change initiative may bring. The change readiness assessment will help us understand the available capacity and the existing culture in the organisation, essential to know before embarking on any significant change;
This type of analysis is often overlooked, but is essential to understand before embarking on any major change, our 8 step process captures the requirement during the preparation phase.
We are passionate about change management as we see this as the number one critical factor for successful continuous improvement.
